2022 Angelo Red Field Blend
ABOUT THE VINEYARD
Five years ago, the story of Angelo Vineyard began with the careful cultivation of Syrah vines. Adding a touch of innovation to tradition, rootstock was planted in the picturesque backdrop of the Angelo Vineyard. A special connection formed in the vineyard every winter, where our Winemaker Matt diligently assisted in the delicate task of winter pruning. Inspired by the charm of the Loire Valley, an exceptional winemaking region, Matt selected cuttings of Loire Valley varietals that he believed would thrive in the terroir and climate of the Dry Creek Valley.
The culmination of this journey unfolded as the rootstock matured, and Matt expertly grafted those cuttings onto it, resulting in a fusion of five or six varietals. Last year marked the inaugural harvest, unveiling a truly unique field blend that goes beyond convention. This blend, a testament to the Mascarin’s Italian heritage and Mia’s great-grandfather’s legacy, is not merely a field blend; it is a groundbreaking composition that captures the essence of the vineyard’s history and the passion embedded in every vine. The careful balance of old-world and new-world viticulture echoes the rich ongoing narrative of the Italian-Swiss colony, and the historic Dry Creek Valley, and adds an indelible chapter to the winemaking story. This never-before-seen blend stands as a living tribute, personifying the spirit of innovation and tradition that defines Sonoma County’s sustainable winemaking at its finest.
HARVEST NOTES
The 2022 harvest in the Dry Creek Valley unfolded with anticipation and promise as vineyards bathed in the warm California sun produced a bounty of exceptional grapes. The ideal weather conditions, marked by a dry and moderate growing season, contributed to the development of concentrated flavors and well-balanced acidity in the fruit. We gratefully celebrated a harvest that is poised to yield wines characterized by richness, depth, and the distinct terroir of this extrodinary winegrowing region.

2022 Pinot Noir Whole Cluster Press, Moonshine Vineyard
ABOUT THE VINEYARD
This vineyard was originally planted to 8’ rows, however the Martinellis inter-planted a row throughout this 7 acre block in 2011 making it a high-density vineyard (4’ row spacing) that is hand farmed. What took some time for the inter-plantings to gain a foothold has turned into some of the best fruit we harvest as these now 12yr old vines are low-yielding and extremely complex. The soils is Huichicha soil, Clay loam with some cobble stone. Matt works closely with the Martinelli Family to farm this vineyard each year, ensuring that we are able to harvest fruit that we are proud to make into Mascarin wine.
HARVEST NOTES
The 2022 growing season maintained a steady and gentle pace, fostering the development of robust canopies. Initial indicators suggested an early harvest was on the horizon until Labor Day arrived, bringing with it an unexpected spike in temperatures, soaring to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Consequently, certain blocks of grapes experienced accelerated sugar accumulation, prompting an early harvest. Overall the yeilds were excellent and the quality of fruit outstanding.
