Lucky Well UV, Sonoma Coast
The Lucky Well Vineyard was planted in the fall of 2007 by Ulises Valdez (hence the “UV” in the wine’s name) to Ehren Jordan’s specifications.
The vineyard itself lies in the rolling hills 3 miles to the north of Occidental and just a few miles inland from the Pacific Ocean on the “true” Sonoma Coast. The vineyard is situated on the site of an abandoned apple orchard, rich in Goldridge soil. Lucky for Ulises, he found a water well to nourish the vineyard, hidden by the clearing of the old apple trees. Hence the name!
The nose shows subtle, elegant aromas of fresh Fuji apple, meyer lemon rind, jasmine and honeysuckle. There is mild salinity and crushed oyster shell minerality with hints of white pepper and pear on the back . On the palate a bit of cinnamon and brown sugar spice, vanilla, high toned fruit but balanced throughout, carried through with hints of butter and just the right amount of French oak.
